Joint Work

Definition:
This is a work prepared by two or more authors with the intention that their contributions be merged into inseparable or interdependent parts of a unitary whole. (See 17 USC § 101. Definitions.15) The authors of a joint work are co-owners of copyright in the work. (See 17 USC § 201(a).16)

Declaration

Definition:
A document in which an applicant for patent declares, under penalty of fine or imprisonment, or both (18 USC 1001), that (1) he or she is the original or sole inventor.

Copying

Definition:
To constitute an infringement of copyright, a work must be a "copy" in the sense that it is substantially similar to a copyrighted work.
